Brand Match and the Open Refund

We match the price of the cheapest Big 6 energy supplier in your area each and every month. However, we cannot re-set our prices every month to reflect the changes in the market and so we set our tariffs (the prices you pay throughout the year) to reflect a price around the average of the Big 6 prices. At the end of each year we prepare a report for you to show you the difference between our tariffs and the cheapest of the Big 6 and refund you this difference as our Open Refund. This is a tracker price and you generate savings through the Open Refund to share with your charity even as prices rise or fall.

What is an Open Refund?

The Open Refund is the money we refund to you at the end of each year to deliver our Brand Match promise. This is how it works;

To start with; we set our prices to match around the average Big6 in your area for each fuel including direct debit discounts (the “Big6 Price”)

Each anniversary; we refund to you the difference between this Big6 Price and the costs of energy of the cheapest of the Big 6 energy suppliers in each month of the year. We publish all of these costs in our Open Report.

This is the Open Refund that you share with your charity. The Open Refund gives you peace of mind on energy savings because, after the Open Refund has been applied, you are always paying a price that Brand Matches the cheapest of the Big 6 energy suppliers in your region for direct debit payment plans.

Your Donations from the Open Refund

You decide when you get your quote what level of savings you wish to donate to charity. You can donate to any UK registered charity. You only donate from the savings you make from the Open Refund when you switch to Open4Energy, your donation is never more than the Open Refund.
